Starbucks Metaverse Games

Starbucks partnered with Katmai to test and refine three games, the first two were shared exclusively with Starbucks Odyssey Beta members and the final iteration rolled learnings from the Beta testing into a full release to all Starbucks App users.

Starbucks Odyssey was a Web 3 loyalty testing ground based on journeys that earned users NFTs and exclusive benefits. Each journey consisted of a set of tasks and purchase requirements. These games were a part of two user journeys and completing them earned you points to use to gain benefits. The third game was made available to all Starbucks App users as a way to promote a specific product push and to drive purchases of a limited-time beverage.

PSL 20th Anniversary Game

To celebrate the birthday of PSL, Odyssey users were given the opportunity to run through a fall-themed town square, check out a virtual store, and collect as many pumpkins as they could to earn points and gain benefits.


Coffee Heritage - First Store Tour

This game was all about taking Starbuck’s Coffee Heritage into virtual space. Odyssey members were encouraged to explore the first store at Pike Place in Seattle, before walking through a gallery of great moments in coffee history, and then making their way to tour the Seattle Roastery, all from the comfort of their device. Emotes and easter eggs were used to surprise and delight those who enaged.

Spring It On Virtual Scavenger Hunt

In support of their Spring product offerings; lavender and spicy beverages, the PSL game was evolved to align with the change in seasons. Instead of rolling this out exclusively to Odyssey Beta members this version was prepped to be released and promoted to millions of Starbucks Loyalty app users and, if completed, the user receives Stars towards their next order.
